In January 1922 near the Oriental Baths Josep Goday founded the Sea School in a wooden
building. The Sea School was aimed at those children who had poor health and who had
been recommended to be near the sea. In this idyllic environment, children enjoyed the
beach and a dip in the water at playtime or in their physical education classes, as shown in
the photo.

The school was characterized by advanced pedagogy with Pere Verges at its head. However,
the dream came to an end in the middle of the civil war. In January 1938 a bomb destroyed
the school thus forcing it to be transferred, firstly to Montjuic and then Guinardó, where it
still survives.
