The most prominent craft in the photograph is a Golondrina moored on the East seawall. In Barcelona ” Las Golondrinas ” is a classic attraction of the port to see the city from another perspective.

It seems that the idea of offering this service in the port came from Leopoldo Herrera Thu, a Cuban from Matanzas, son of a Catalan father and a French mother, who saw that Barcelona needed a ferryboat like those he had seen in his city. In 1884 he set the business up, but it must not have gone very well because in 1887 it was purchased by Feliciana Goñi 1888 and relaunched following the Universal Exhibition. Since then the Golondrinas have been running  only interrupted during the civil war.
