General Operator of the SMSSM

You will be trained to perform the functions of the radioelectric and radiocommunications service on ships registered with the GMDSS in zones A1, A2, A3 and A4.

You will know how to transmit and receive information using the GMDSS subsystems and equipment and guarantee radiocommunications services in cases of emergency.

Radio communications on ships registered with the GMDSS in zone A1, A2, A3 and A4.

Title approved in Spain by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine complying with the Training Code of the STCW-78/10 Convention.

Theory: 50 hours

In air-conditioned classrooms a few minutes from the center of Barcelona.

Internships: 70 hours

In an air-conditioned classroom with 12 stations with simulators.

Validity: 5 years

The certificate must be revalidated by completing a refresher course.

Face-to-face classes in Barcelona's Olympic Village

The training, which is given in Spanish, is aimed at Captains and Officers in charge of the navigational watch of civilian ships registered with the SMSGM in any navigation area, except for ships that only sail in maritime zone A1.

Course content

Ability to use the English language, both written and spoken, for the satisfactory exchange of communications relevant to the safety of human life at sea.
Practical knowledge and qualification of the basic equipment of a ship's station.
Basic characteristics of the maritime mobile service.
Operational procedures and detailed operation of the GMDSS systems and their subsystems.
Capabilities and operational procedures for general communications.

Radio communications on ships registered with the GMDSS in zone A1, A2, A3 and A4.

If you are already a GMDSS Restricted Operator, to become a General Operator, you only have to complete the bridge course.
