Port Skipper

You will be able to work as a skipper of merchant ships with a gross tonnage not exceeding 100 GT that sail up to 3 miles from a port and transport a maximum of 150 passengers.

The functions of skipper and chief engineer can be exercised simultaneously, provided that the vessel has the appropriate automation and the power does not exceed 375 KW in a single engine, or double that in two or more engines.

Port Skipper

You will gain the preparation for planning and directing a coastal crossing and determining the situation safely. Conducting a safe navigational watch. Controlling the operation of the ship and the care of people on board.

Certificate approved in Spain by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine complying with the Training Code of the STCW-78/10 Convention.

Theory: 110 hours

In air-conditioned classrooms a few minutes from the center of Barcelona.

Internships: 40 hours

In the classroom and on the open sea. Mandatory attendance at 100% during the practical hours.

Validity: 5 years

The certificate must be revalidated by completing a refresher course.

Issue of the certificate

To request the issuance of the certificate of Port Skipper you will have to submit the following documentation to the Maritime Administration of your autonomous community:

Appointment request Maritime Captaincy

Request an appointment.

Identity document

Original and photocopy of DNI, NIE or passport, in force.

Diploma of the course

Original and photocopy of the diploma of "Port Skipper".

Proof of payment of fees for Professional and Recreational Maritime Titles.
(Model 790, code 028).

Boarding period

Prove a period of embarkation on Spanish civilian ships with a gross tonnage greater than 5 GT and power greater than 100 KW, not less than 12 months (at least 6 months in bridge service and 6 months in engine service).

STCW certificates

Prove ownership of the Basic Training, SMSGM Restricted Operator and Initial Specific Health Training certificates.
