These internships are held monthly, departing from Barcelona to the Balearic Islands, aboard one of our sailboats over 15 meters long.
Objective of the internship
The main objective is to perfect navigation skills in crossing and safe navigation, within the attributions of the title of Yacht Captain.
Increasing sailing time allows you to gain real experience and get used to the situations that can be experienced with a Yacht Captain title, such as long-term crossings or night sailing.
During the practice, a navigation watch system is established, with rotating tasks typical of a crossing, essential for assimilating knowledge in a practical way.
duration

For the return, 18 more hours of navigation, also non-stop, carrying out the planned syllabus of the practices in the two crossings.

According to the weather report it is advisable to wear a raincoat and warm clothes. In addition to comfortable clothes suitable for a crossing and the right shoes.
During the navigation you will be able to rest while others will keep watch on deck, you will be returning.
Regarding food, it is recommended that you cook little on the boat, try to bring prepared food or things that are easy to make. The school will put a coffee maker, coffee, infusions and sugar on the boat.

YC sailing practices
Complementary practices are voluntary and valid to expand the basic attributions you obtain with the mandatory practices. If you have already completed them, with the PER or the PI, for example, you will not have to repeat them.
You have to complete the sailing practices if you are interested in sailing sailboats, they last 16 hours and you can complete them in 4-hour daily sessions during the week or in two 8-hour sessions on a weekend.

Evaluation of practices
Unlike the exam, the internships are evaluated by the nautical school, with the internship instructor awarding Pass or Fail.
The instructor must assess the student's ability, in accordance with the following points, and may not sign the corresponding practice certificate if any of them are not met:
- Punctuality and attendance at practices.
- Acceptance of the rules of the recreational nautical school. The student will have to accept the school's rules for teaching the practices.
- Active participation. The student must participate actively during the entire internship, being receptive to the training.
You can modify the date of your reservation or temporarily cancel your reservation by notifying the school with:
– 48 hours in advance for navigation and radio practices.
– Five days for the crossing practices.
The nautical school is forced to financially penalize non-attendance at practices.
The amount of this penalty is:
– €45 for navigation and radio practices.
– €95 for crossing practices.
To avoid penalties, any change in date or cancellation of internships must be notified, in writing, to the school with:
– 48 hours in advance for navigation and radio practices.
– Five days for the crossing practices.
Nautical schools are obliged to notify the number of participants in the practices to the Generalitat de Catalunya, days before they take place.
Once the school has notified the Generalitat of the list of participants, it cannot be changed except in the event of demonstrable force majeure*.
If a participant does not show up for the internship, they will not be able to be evaluated and their APTE will not be recognized, but they will also cause harm to another person who has not been able to fill their place and to the school, which will not be able to sell that place.
*Causes of force majeure: illness, accident, etc.

Official exam in Catalonia
The exam assesses the theoretical knowledge of the content of the 4 units of the syllabus.
The APTE in the exam is valid for 24 months, within this period you must complete the internship and issue the qualification, otherwise, you will have to repeat the exam.
The exams are called in Catalonia by the Generalitat and there are four conocatories a year.
You can sign up for the exam you prefer voluntarily, the school will not register you for the exam without your formal authorization.
It is not mandatory to sign up for the one that coincides with the theoretical training.
There are specific deadlines for registering for the exam, after a certain date you will no longer be able to appear and you will have to wait for another call.
To take the exam, in addition to registering for the call of your choice, you must pay a registration fee on the website of the Generalitat's nautical department.
– The exam is usually held at the weekend, in a public institute.
- A few days before each call, the list of admitted candidates is published.
– You choose the call, but until the list is published you will not know the place, day and time when you have to appear for the exam.
