Sailing practices enable your recreational qualification to steer sailboats.

Valid for PNB, PER, Skipper and Yacht Captain. They are carried out on a sailing basis, with a stop in port every 4 hours of navigation.

16 hours of sailing practice

Complementary practices in sailing, the completion and completion of which assumes the student's ability to sail, in accordance with the attributions conferred by his qualification.

These practices must be done only once, for example, if after the PNB the student obtains the PER title he will be able to sail up to 12 miles, without the need to do additional practices.

Escola Port has approved sailboats between 8 and 15 m in length at its base in Port Olímpic, you will practice on different sailboats that will allow you to try two lengths and understand the differences both functionally and when handling the boat

The boats are equipped with all the electronic and safety elements required by current regulations, in addition to the corresponding all-risk insurance for all crew members.

Modalities
They can be done in four consecutive 4-hour sessions during the week (morning or afternoon) or in two 8-hour sessions at the weekend.

method
The working method is rotational participation, you and other crew members will alternate at the controls of the ship and work as a team to develop different maneuvers in 4-hour sessions.

In addition to your instructor's instructions, your learning will depend as much on what you do as on careful observation, and understanding, of the successes and failures of the other participants. Sailing is a team effort.

Remember that sailing is learned by sailing.
In the 16 hours of practice we will give you the basics to sail safely, but only as you accumulate hours and miles in different situations, sea conditions and types of boat, you will come to have the confidence and security necessary to to steer a boat with guarantees.

How do I prepare to do them?

How should I prepare for sailing practice?

  • Consult the calendar and choose the date that suits you.
  • Check the weather forecast.
  • Wear comfortable (sports) clothes adapted to the weather.
  • Footwear is important, preferably neutral-soled boat shoes, but a pair of trainers will do.
  • Preferably wear sailing or bike gloves.
  • You will spend many hours exposed to the Sun, sun protection, tinted glasses and a cap will come in handy.
  • Arrive well in advance of departure.
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, ask your trusted pharmacy what you can take before boarding.
  • Hydration is very important, remember to bring your water bottle.

Evaluation of practices

Unlike the exam, the internships are evaluated by the nautical school, with the internship instructor awarding Pass or Fail.

The instructor must assess the student's ability, in accordance with the following points, and may not sign the corresponding practice certificate if any of them are not met: 

  1. Punctuality and attendance at practices.
  2. Acceptance of the rules of the recreational nautical school. The student will have to accept the school's rules for teaching the practices.
  3. Active participation. The student must participate actively during the entire internship, being receptive to the training.
Cancellation/Change of practices

You can modify the date of your reservation or temporarily cancel your reservation by notifying the school with:
– 48 hours in advance for navigation and radio practices.
– Five days for the crossing practices.

The nautical school is forced to financially penalize non-attendance at practices.

The amount of this penalty is:
– €45 for navigation and radio practices.
– €95 for crossing practices.

To avoid penalties, any change in date or cancellation of internships must be notified, in writing, to the school with:
– 48 hours in advance for navigation and radio practices.
– Five days for the crossing practices.

Nautical schools are obliged to notify the number of participants in the practices to the Generalitat de Catalunya, days before they take place.

Once the school has notified the Generalitat of the list of participants, it cannot be changed except in the event of demonstrable force majeure*.

If a participant does not show up for the internship, they will not be able to be evaluated and their APTE will not be recognized, but they will also cause harm to another person who has not been able to fill their place and to the school, which will not be able to sell that place.

*Causes of force majeure: illness, accident, etc.

Statement of practices

At EscolaPort, we register all your internships in the computer system of the nautical department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, before and after you complete them.

The APTE in practice is valid for 24 months.

Procedures

If you practice sailing after having issued your title, to include these attributions you must make a new issue, paying the corresponding fee.
